Indications

Betaseptic hand rub is indicated in-
  • A rapid acting wide spectrum microbicidal preperation to disinfect clean hand of Doctor's, Nurse's & Person's; prior to a surgical procedures or after handling contaminated materials.
  • To disinfect surgical instruments.
  • To disinfect skin prior to surgery or other invasive procedures.
  • To disinfect wound dressing.

Composition

This preparation contains-
  • 0.5% w/v Chlorhexidine Gluconate (equivalent to 2.5% v/v Chlorhexidine Gluconate solution BP)
  • 70% v/v Isopropyl Alcohol BP

Pharmacology

At physiologic pH, chlorhexidine salts dissociate and release the positively charged chlorhexidine cation. The bactericidal effect is a result of the binding of this cationic molecule to negatively charged bacterial cell walls. At low concentrations of chlorhexidine, this results in a bacteriostatic effect; at high concentrations, membrane disruption results in cell death.

Dosage & Administration

To disinfect clean hand; contaminated materials: Take essential amount (Almost 3 ml) on hand and scrub both hands' full surface area until it is dried.

To disinfect surgical instruments: Take essential amount (Almost 5 ml) in a clean pot and immerse instruments in it for 2 minutes.

To disinfect skin prior to surgery or other invasive procedures: Take essential amount (Almost 3 ml) with cotton and scrub it on the skin until it is dried.

To disinfect wound/wound dressing: Take essential amount (Almost 3 ml) with cotton and scrub it on the wound until it is dried.

Interaction

Chlorhexidine is incompatible with soaps and other anionic agents. Hypochlorite bleaches may cause brown stains to develop in fabrics which have previously been in contact with chlorhexidine solutions.

Contraindications

It should not be used in patients who are Hypersensitivity to Chlorhexidine Gluconate or any composition to it.

Side Effects

Side effects may include skin irritation, allergic reactions and teeth discoloration. May cause eye problems if direct contact occurs.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This is safe for pregnant woman. It is not known whether this is safe or not in lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

Avoid contact with brain, meninges, middle ear or sensitive tissues and eyes. Do not inject or use in body cavities.

Keep away from eye, head and meninges & middle ear. Store in a cool and dry place, away from light, Keep out of the reach of children.
