Indications

Poultry: Erisen-Vet is indicated for the treatment of diseases caused by different Gram positive & gram negative bacteria such as polluram diseases, Fowl typhoid, fowl cholera, collibacilosis, Septicemia, necrotic enteritis, nonspecific enteritis; respiratory tract diseases (CRD, bronchopneumonia), urinary & genital tract diseases and coccidiosis. Erisen-Vet is specially indicated when other antibiotics and chemotherapeutics fail due to resistance problem.

Calves & foals: Erisen-Vet is indicated in respiratory & gastro-intestinal tract infections like bronchopneumonia, bronchitis, diarrhea, enteritis & scour.

Fish: Erisen-Vet is indicated in gram-positive cocci infections of fish.

Composition

Each gm powder contains-
  • Erythromycin Thiocyanate INN 180 mg
  • Sulfadiazine BP 150 mg
  • Trimethoprim BP 30 mg

Pharmacology

This preparation is water soluble antibiotic powder containing a combination of three potent anti-bacterial agents, erythromycin, sulphadiazine, & trimethoprim. This combination provides broad spectrum activity against a wide range of bacterial & some protozoal infections. Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic highly effective against gram positive bacteria, and Mycoplasma. It is also effective against some gram-negative bacteria such as Nessaria spp. & Haemophilus spp. Erythromycin works by binding with 50s ribosomal subunit, consequently inhibit protein synthesis of bacteria. Sulphadiazine inhibits biosynthesis of PABA to dihydrosulphonic acid & Trymethoprim inhibits the biosynthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid from dihydrofolic acid.

Dosage & Administration

Oral administration only.

Poultry: 0.5 to 1.0 gm per litter of drinking water for 3-5 days.

Calves/foals: 7.5 g per 50 kg body weight, for 3-5 days. Or, as directed by the registered veterinary physician.

Fish: 1 g per 10 kg body weight, for 3-5 days. Or, as directed by the fisheries expert.

Interaction

With medicine: Should not be used concurrently with macrolide antibiotic, chloramphenicol, Tylosin & Lincosomide. With food & others: In the case of erythromycin, there are no specific foods that should exclude from diet when receiving this medication.

Contraindications

This preparation is contraindicated in animals with hypersensitivity to the erythromycin, Sulphadiazine & Trimethoprim.

Common side effects: No side effects observed at recommended doses. Rare side effects: No side effects observed at recommended doses.

Pregnancy & Lactation

May be used in pregnant & lactating animals but risk & benefit may be considered.

Precautions & Warnings

Oral erythromycin should not be used in ruminants as diarrhea may occur.

Withdrawal Period: Egg 6 days, Meat: 5 days.

Overdose Effects

Erisen-Vet is relatively non-toxic.
