Pharmacology
Calcium: Calcium is an important ion, a major component of bones & teeth and is required for maintenance of normal cardiac rhythm, blood clotting, initiation of neuromuscular & metabolic activities. The requirement of calcium is increased during lactation. Inadequacy of calcium may result hypocalcaemia (milk fever).
Magnesium: Magnesium is an essential electrolyte, acts as co-factor in numerous enzymes and involved in phosphate transfer, muscle contractility & neuronal transmission.
Phosphorus: Phosphorus is a key component in energy & protein metabolism. It is also a structural part of bone. Hypophosphatemia may occur in association with milk fever in dairy cows.
