Kanamycin

Indications

Kanamycin is in a group of drugs called aminoglycosides. It fights bacteria in the body. Kanamycin is used to treat serious infections caused by bacteria. Kanamycin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Dosage & Administration

1 drop several times a day (every 2 to 3 hours) into the conjunctival sac or as directed by physician.

Interaction

  • When using the preparation with other medicines: Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using or
  • have recently used any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
  • With local therapy in the recommended dosage, interactions with other agents are hardly to be expected.
  • Reaching relevant systemic concentrations of kanamycin may result in the following interactions:
  • Enhancement of the nephrotoxic effect of methoxyflurane, cephalosporins and loop diuretics (furosemide, etacrynic acid), enhancement of the ototoxic effect
  • of other ototoxic drugs, such as e.g. B. the loop diuretics,
  • Enhancement of the neuromuscular blocking properties of muscle relaxants ((-)-tubocurarine, suxamethonium, pancuronium) and ethers.
  • Kanamycin can be inactivated in solution by beta-lactam antibiotics.

Contraindications

The drug must not be used
  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to kanamycin sulfate or any of the other ingredients of the product.
  • A possible parallel allergy with other aminoglycosides must be taken into account.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, the preparation can have side effects, although not everyone gets them. The frequency of side effects is based on the following categories:
  • Very common: affects more than 1 in 10 people
  • Common: affects 1 to 10 users in 100
  • Uncommon: affects 1 to 10 users in 1,000
  • Rare: affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000
  • Very rare: affects less than 1 in 10,000 people
  • Not known: frequency cannot be estimated from the available data.
Possible side effects of Kanamycin POS Eye Drop, In rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions (fever, severe itching of the skin [pruritus), inflammatory skin rash [exanthema), increase in eosinophils in the blood (eosinophils belong to the group of white blood cells) [eosinophilia), painful swelling of the vessels in the skin and mucous membranes (angioedema J. inflammatory allergic skin reaction [contact dermatitis), nettle rash (urticaria]) occur, making it necessary to discontinue the preparation. Furthermore, insensitive germs can occur during the treatment. As with other antibiotics, prolonged use can result in an additional infection with non-kanamycin-sensitive pathogens.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine & Kanamycin POS Eye Drop. The drug may be used during pregnancy and lactation, as systemic-toxic effects are not to be expected when small amounts are applied locally to the eye.
