Lactobacillus Rhamnosus GG

Indications

Probiotic contains different types of micro-organisms such as yeast (saccharomyces boulardii) and bacteria (such as lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium). Micro-organisms (flora) are naturally found in the stomach/intestine/vagina. Some conditions (such as antibiotic use, travel) can change the normal balance of bacteria/yeast. Probiotics are used to improve digestion and restore normal flora. Probiotics have been used to treat bowel problems (such as diarrhea, irritable bowel), eczema, vaginal yeast infections, lactose intolerance, and urinary tract infections.

Pharmacology

The Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG is resistant to bile and acid, so it isn't easily destroyed, it can grow a healthy population in the gut, and it can stick to yourn gut lining. The Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG probiotic can block other bacteria from growing by competing for nutrients and attachment sites on the gut lining. If there isn't enough food, harmful bacteria can't live inside. Human gut lining acts as a barrier between the food, toxins, and microbes in intestine, body cavity, and bloodstream. The lining is made of cells called tight junctions. Damage to the lining makes the tight junctions loosen, which can leak harmful compounds into the bloodstream. Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, though, can timulate different reactions in the gut that make these tight junctions work better. These bacteria might also help people with inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis. Gut-lining damage is a common complication of inflammatory bowel disease. While probiotics don't cure inflammatory bowel disease, they can help replenish friendly bacteria and increase the tightness of those junctions. Bacteria can bind to proteins on the immune cells, which activates the immune system. Once they bind to the cells, this signals your body to release chemicals that influence other immune cells and regulate the immune response. If anyone lose friendly bacteria or have an imbalance caused by a medication, infection, or bowel disease/syndrome, taking Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG can help build back a healthy microbiome.
