Miconazole Nitrate + Zinc Oxide + White Soft Paraffin

Indications

This combination ointment is indicated for the treatment of diaper dermatitis associated with fungal infection.

Composition

Each gram of Ointment contains
  • Miconazole Nitrate BP 2.5 mg
  • Zinc Oxide USP 150 mg
  • White Soft Paraffin BP 813.5 mg

Pharmacology

Miconazole is a broad-spectrum antimycotic which others a high antifungal activity against dermatophytes, yeasts and other phyco-asco and adelomycetes, with a potent antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacilli and cocci. Miconazole is proved to be markedly effective in secondary infected mycoses. Zinc Oxide and White Soft Paraffin exert an emollient effect by forming an occlusive film which reduces trans-epidermal water loss, thus helping to maintain normal skin humidity levels.

Dosage & Administration

Before applying Ointment, gently cleanse the skin with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel. Avoid using any scented soaps, shampoos, or lotions on the diaper area. Should be applied to the affected area at each diaper change for 7 days.

Contraindications

Ointment is contraindicated in those patients with a history of sensitivity reactions to any of the ingredients of this preparation. It should be discontinued if hypersensitivity is noted.

Side Effects

Well tolerated. Does not show any significant side effect. Sometimes, skin irritation may occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Pregnant women should exercise appropriate precautions when administering the product. Safety and efficacy of the product have not been established in nursing mothers. It is not known if the active components of this ointment may be present in milk. Nursing mothers should exercise appropriate precautions when administering the product.
