Indications

Moxilin Vet is indicated for the treatment of the following infectious diseases.

In cattle, horse, sheep/goat, pig, dog and cat:
  • Urogenital tract diseases: Mastitis, metritis, pyometra, retained placenta, navel ill, cystitis, nephritis & MMA-syndrome etc.
  • Respiratory diseases: Pneumonia, shipping fever, bronchitis, calf diphtheria, sinusitis, pharyngitis & laryngitis etc.
  • GI tract diseases: Calf scour, salmonellosis, gastritis, enteritis, stomatitis & campylobacteriosis etc.
  • Musculoskeletal diseases: Skin & soft tissue infection, abscess, wounds, foot rot, arthritis, black quarter & eczema etc. For the prevention of secondary bacterial infections followed by in viral or parasitic infections and post-operation.
In poultry: Pneumonia, infectious coryza, fowl cholera, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, necrotic enteritis, CRD, staphylococcosis, ranikhet & gumboro etc.

In fish: Fin rot disease, tail rot disease, dropsy, white & red spot disease and gill rot disease.

Pharmacology

Amoxycillin is a broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic, belongs to the beta-lactum group. It is a semisynthetic penicillin. Penicillins bind with bacterial cell receptors (penicillin binding protein). Peptidoglycan synthesis is inhibited because transpeptidase is blocked. Inactivate the inhibitor of autolytic enzymes in the bacterial cell wall which cause lysis of the bacterium. Defective cell wall form that is osmotically unstable. Cell death usually results from lysis

Dosage & Administration

Amoxicillin bolus: For oral administration only.
  • Livestock: One bolus/125 kg body weight (8 mg/kg) twice daily.
  • Horse: One bolus/25-40 kg body weight thrice daily.
  • Poultry: One bolus/10 liter drinking water twice daily.
  • Dog/Cat: 10 mg/kg body weight twice daily.
  • Fish & Shrimp: 80 mg/kg body weight daily.
Amoxicillin powder for injection: For IM/IV/SC administration only.
  • Direction for reconstitution: Moxilin Vet 1 g & 2 g: Add 10 ml water for injection into the each vial respectively & shake well until the powder dissolved properly.
  • Cattle: 7 mg/kg body weight by IM/IV/SC injection once or twice daily for 3-5 days or 1 g/142 kg and 2 g/285 kg body weight.
  • Horse: 10 mg/kg body weight by IM/IV/SC injection once or twice daily for 3-5 days or 1 g/100 kg and 2 g/200 kg body weight.
  • Sheep/goat & Pig: 7 mg/kg body weight by IM/SC injection once or twice daily for 3- 5 days.
  • Dogs & Cats: 7 mg/kg body weight by IM/SC injection once daily for 3-5 days.
Amoxicillin LA: For IM/SC administration only.
  • In general: 1 ml/10 kg (equivalent to 15 mg/kg) body weight, repeat if necessary after 48 hours. A separate injection site should be used for each administration.
  • Cattle: 20 ml/200 kg body weight by IM injection only.
  • Sheep & Goat: 2 ml/20 kg body weight by IM injection only.
  • Dogs: 1 ml/10kg body weight by IM or SC injection.
  • Cats: 0.5 ml/5 kg body weight by IM or SC injection.
Massage the injection site after administration. Dose volumes in excess of 20 ml should be injected at more than one site. Or, as directed by the registered Veterinary Physician.

Amoxicillin powder for solution:
  • Poultry: 1 g/3-5 L drinking water daily for 3-5 days.
  • Calves: 25-45 mg/kg body weight daily for 5 days.
  • Goat & Sheep: 10 mg/kg body weight daily for 3-5 days.
  • Dog & Cat: 30-60 mg/kg body weight daily for 5 days.
  • Fish & Shrimp: 4-5 g/kg feed daily for 5-7 days.

Interaction

With medicine: Administration of Moxilin Vet with bacteriostatic drug (Chloramphenicol, Erythromycin, Tetracycline & Sulfonamide etc.) may show antagonism effects. With food & others: No interaction was known.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to Amoxicillin. Do not administer the Amoxicillin LA via intravenous or intrathecal route.

Side Effects

Side effects are rare, mild & infrequent. As with other penicillin, it may include diarrhoea, indigestion or skin rashes, which usually stop during treatment & rarely calls for discontinuation of therapy. No adverse effect at recommended dose. Sometimes hypersensitivity reactions and digestive instability may occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Animal studies did not demonstrate any risk to the fetus. However, risk & necessity should be considered during administration of it in pregnant & lactating animals.

Precautions & Warnings

Moxilin Vet is ineffective against beta-lactamase enzyme producing bacteria. Use cautiously in animals who are documented hypersensitive to other beta-lactam antibiotics e.g. cephalosporin, cefamycins, carbapenems. The vial of Moxilin Vet LA should be shaken well before use. Moxilin Vet LA could not be mixed with water or other preparations & use a dry needle and syringe.

Withdrawal Time-
  • Moxilin Vet bolus: Meat-10 days & Milk-01 day.
  • Moxilin Vet powder for injection: Meat-18 days & Milk-01 day.
  • Moxilin Vet LA: Meat-21 days & Milk-2.5 days.

Overdose Effects

Allergic reactions, central nervous system symptoms of excitement & spasm may occur. No specific antidote is known; symptomatic treatments are advised.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30° C temperature and dry place, protected from light. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
