Indications

Indicated for gastrointestinal, respiratory and urogenital infections caused by micro-organisms sensitive to Sulfasol Vet.

Pharmacology

Sulfadimidine inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting of dihydrofolic acid synthesis.

Dosage & Administration

Bolus: For oral administration only.
  • Large animals: 1-2 boli/50 kg BW on 1st day of treatment & half of the initial dose from next day.
  • Small animals: 1 bolus/25 kg BW on 1st day of treatment & half of the initial dose from next day.
  • Intra Uterine: 1 bolus directly or powdered for douche.
  • Treatment should not be continued more than 4 days.
Injection: For IM/IV/SC/IP injection only.
Cattle, Buffalo, Horse:
  • Initial Dose: 15-30 ml per 50 kg body weight.
  • Maintenance Dose: Half of the initial dose.
Sheep, Goat, Dog, Cat, Rabbit:
  • Initial Dose: 1.5-3.0 ml/5 kg body weight.
  • Maintenance Dose: Half of the initial dose.
  • It is seldom necessary to continue treatment for more than 5 days
  • For oral administration via the drinking water.
Coccidiosis in Poultry: Add 3-7 ml into one liter of drinking water for 3 days; allow a 2 days break then repeat for a further 3 days. In severity, give a final 3 days treatment on medicated water after a 2 days break. Or as directed by the Registered Veterinary Physician.

Interaction

With medicine: Interaction with other medicinal products Simultaneous administration with PABA & methenamine must be avoided.

With food and others
: Do not dose calcium, aluminium, magnesium or iron supplements within 2 hours of treatment.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in known cases of hypersensitivity to sulphonamides and in animals with severe liver damage or blood dyscrasias.

Side Effects

Common side effects: Digestion disturbances, diarrhea, suppression of immune system, infertility in males, degeneration of peripheral nerves, bleedings.

Rare side effects: Hypersensitivity reactions may occur, but are very rare in the target species.

Use only accordingly to the benefit/risk assessment by the responsible Veterinarian.

Precautions & Warnings

Care in renal impairment; ensure adequate water intake during treatment; avoid prolonged administration Dose.

Overdose Effects

Following an overdose, a clear drop in water intake will occur in poultry. Administration to calves via the artificial milk may lead to a retarded uptake of water and to diarrhea.

Store in a cool and dry place protected from light. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
