Ceftiofur is a broad spectrum third generation Cephalosporin and beta-lactam antibiotic that is resistant to the action of beta-lactamase. It is active against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The additional benefit of Ceftiofur is that its metabolite, desfuroylceftiofur has also antimicrobial activity. It kills bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell wall.
