Calcium Pantothenate
Indications
Calcium Pantothenate is used as supplementation of calcium, pregnancy, lactation, Childhood rickets, Osteomalacia, Osteoporosis.
Pharmacology
Calcium salt of pantothenic acid which is very essential for the supplementation of calcium in the body. Calcium pantothenate neutralizes gastric acid in peptic ulcer disease and gives supplementary dietary calcium by reducing serum phosphate concentration which ultimately ensures the deposition of calcium phosphate in bone and soft tissue.
Dosage & Administration
Slow intravenous or deep intramuscular as required or as directed by physician.
Interaction
There are no known drug interactions and none well documented.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria.
Side Effects
Mild gastrointestinal disturbances, bradicardia, arrythmia and irritation after IV injection
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category-C. Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks
Precautions & Warnings
Renal impairment, sarcoidosis, concurrent administration of thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypercalcaemia.
