Tiamulin Hydrogen Fumarate

Veterinary

Indications

Used for the treatment & prevention of Mycoplasmal and other infections of poultry like CRD, CCRD, Sinusitis, Air saculytis, Enteritis, Pneumonia etc.

Efficacy:
  • Improves the performance of broiler birds
  • Controls both MG and MS
  • Improves growth rate and FCR
  • Compatible with a number of modern anticoccidials
  • Ideal for laying hens
  • High activity against both MG and MS
  • Improves egg production
  • Zero withdrawal in eggs
  • Also ideal for mycoplasma control in breeding flocks
  • Increase of hatchability
  • Protection of the developing chick
  • Cost-effective control
Benefits:
  • More effective than any other drugs used for the prevention & treatment of mycoplasmosis of poultry.
  • Ensures higher weight gain of broiler, egg production percentage of layer & brooding percentage of breeders.
  • Shows synergistic action with tetracyclines which gives better result for the treatment of CRD & CCRD.
  • Very low resistance development against mycoplasma. It is also effective against tylosin or other antibiotics resistant mycoplasma.
  • Shows efficacy in a wide range of pH (3.0-8.4), stable in gastric acid.
  • Very minimum or no chance for cross-resistance.
  • Wide safety margin.
  • Environment friendly, not harmful for plant growth, soil bacteria or fish.

Pharmacology

Tiamulin Hydrogen Fumarate is a antibiotic of pleuromutilin group. It is a prokaryotic ribosome inhibitor that acts by blocking the initiation of polypeptide chain formation, thus preventing the synthesis of key enzymes and other proteins.

Pharmacokinetics:
  • More than 90% absorption at recommended dose.
  • Maximum therapeutic concentration within 02 hours after administration.
  • 99% tiamulin excreted from blood within 48 hours.
  • No side effect, even in case of 03 times excess dose.
  • Can be administered with a number of coccidiostats.
  • Shows synergistic effect with tetracyclines.

Dosage & Administration

Treatment:
  • In water: 25-30 mg/ kg B.W or 1 g/2 L water for 3-5 days
  • In feed: 30-40 gm/100 kg feed for 5-7 days
Prevention:
  • In water: 1 gm/4 L water for 1-7 days
  • In feed: 20 gm/100 kg feed for 3-5 days

Interaction

Compatible anticoccidials: Lasalocid, Nicarbazin, Semduramicin, Decoquinate, Diclazuril, Amprolium, Halofuginone, Clopidol, Robenidine, Coccidiosis vaccines etc.

Low resistance: Tiamulin develops resistance very slowly than other antibiotics like Tylosin, Oxytetracycline, Lincomycin & Enrofloxacin.

Negligible cross-resistance: Tiamulin is an antibiotic of the pleuromutilin family and is not related to other antibiotics, such as the macrolides (tylosin, kitasamycin, erythromycin, josamycin and spiramycin), or the tetracyclines and there is no cross-resistance between the families. Due to its lack of cross-resistance Tiamulin has been shown to be active against tylosin-resistant strains.

Well tolerated: Toxicity studies have shown Tiamulin is well tolerated in chickens. The LD5 (where 5% mortality occurs) for chickens is 1090 mg/kg body weight (44 times preventive dose). It is well distributed throughout body tissues and is metabolized and excreted primarily via the liver and kidneys.

Contraindications

Do not use in birds hypersensitive to the active ingredient.

Side Effects

Tiamulin is suitable for use in laying and breeding birds as it has been shown to have no adverse effects on egg production, fertility and hatchability in chickens.

Precautions & Warnings

Birds should not receive feed containing Narasin & Salinomycin during or for at least seven days before or after treatment with Tiamulin Powder. Severe growth depression or death may result. Concomitant use of tiamulin and the ionophore anticoccidial Maduramycin may lead to a mild to moderate growth depression in chickens. The situation is transient and recovery normally occurs within 3-5 days following withdrawal of THF.

Withdrawal period: For meat: 03 (three) days. For egg: Nil (Zero)

Storage Conditions

Protect from light. Store in a cool & dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
