Glycerol + Liquid Sugar

Indications

This preparation is indicated to relief of dry, irritating cough and sore throat. It also assists in relieving productive cough.

Pharmacology

Glycerol is an osmotic dehydrating agent that possesses hygroscopic and lubricating properties. It causes plasma osmolality leading to the movement of water into the plasma from the extravascular spaces via osmosis.

Dosage & Administration

Adults including the elderly and children over 5 years: Two 5 ml spoonful (10 ml)
Children 1-5 years: One 5 ml spoonful (5 ml)
Children 3 month - under 1 year: 1/2 - 1 spoonful (2.5 - 5 ml)

The dose should be repeated three or four times a day as required.

Interaction

No clinically significant interactions have found.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.

Side Effects

This medicine is unlikely to cause side effects unless the patient is allergic to the ingredients.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The safety of this product during pregnancy and lactation has not been established, but is not considered to constitute a hazard during these periods and used widely without any ill consequence.

Precautions & Warnings

Diabetics should take note of the carbohydrate content of this product. Not recommended for children below three months.

Overdose Effects

Over dosage would not be expected to cause any problems and treatment would be merely symptomatic and supportive.
